ENCOURAGING SUSTAINABLE LIVING FOR A LASTING HOME FOR ALL

A while back, we faced the challenge of turning a blank magnolia box into a space that felt like home. This lead us on an unexpected journey, discovering both new skills and a better understanding of the existing interiors world –  including the wider impact on both us and our planet

WHAT WE DISCOVERED

OLD IS BETTER THAN NEW

Vintage furniture in particular feels more personal, has a story and is often better made than more modern counterparts. This means it wont need to be replaced as often and as a result is far more ‘purse and planet’ friendly!

WASTE IS EVERYWHERE

It’s amazing what people (and companies) throw away that can either be reused, or transformed into something amazing. This revelation has driven our product development ever since

SO MUCH CAN BE REPURPOSED

Once you start to look at ways to change an item from what you see in front of you to what it could be, it’s impossible to look back

NATURE IS THE BEST PROVIDER

Natural materials tend to last longer in use, then wont stick around for hundreds of years after they're disposed of. There's a time and place for synthetics such as plastics, but should be used sparingly now we understand the impact they’re having on our planet

WE DONT NEED AS MUCH AS WE THINK

You don’t have to go as far as Marie Kondo - even purchasing more mindfully with longevity in mind will help. If you truly love and value something it will stand the test of time rather than becoming another piece of throw away fashion cluttering up your home

THE CLOSER THE BETTER

There will always be goods and services we rely on other countries to provide, but globalisation has come at a cost. Sourcing locally where we can keeps our carbon emissions as low as possible and often means supporting smaller businesses in the process

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO HAVE A WELL DECORATED HOME?

You should have at least one space in your life that works for you and delivers what you need. For us, we need a place that has a restorative effect where it’s possible to slow down and appreciate beauty. There’s a lot of research to show that the more grateful you are, the happier you tend to be; but to experience gratitude for your surroundings you have to notice them first

“Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough.”  — Melodie Beatty

“Decorating is not about making stage sets, it’s not about making pretty pictures for the magazines, it’s really about creating a quality of life, a beauty that nourishes the soul”

– Albert Hadley
