Glass Tea Light Holders Made from Reclaimed Wine Bottles
Our glass tea light holders are handmade in our Dorset workshop from the tops of reclaimed wine bottles – a part of the bottle that would otherwise be discarded when we make our drinking glasses.
Each bottle is cut before the edges are carefully ground and polished smooth. The finished glass dome is paired with a removable wooden base, made for us locally just across the Dorset border in Somerset using recycled wood.
Available in clear or olive green glass, the exact colour and shape can vary slightly depending on the bottles we reclaim.
Recycled Glass & Locally Made Wood
We wanted every part of these candle holders to make good use of materials already in circulation. The glass comes from reclaimed wine bottles, while the bases are cut locally in Somerset from recycled wood.
We finish each wooden base by hand in our Dorset workshop, using natural dye before sealing it with tung oil wax. The result is a durable, simple finish that lets the character of the reclaimed wood remain visible.
By finding a use for the top as well as the bottom of each bottle, we’re also able to make more from every piece of glass we collect and reduce the amount left as waste.
How to Use Your Glass Tea Light Holder
The wooden base is removable, so lighting and replacing your candle is straightforward. Place your tea light on the base, light it and position the glass dome over the top. The open neck allows heat to escape while the surrounding glass helps protect the flame from draughts and light breezes.
There are several ways to use them depending on the type of tea light you prefer. Add one of our small glass tea light cups, use a standard tea light in its own casing, or pair the dome with our naked tea lights and reusable metal tea light holder for a lower-waste option.
For Dining Tables, Outdoor Evenings & Entertaining
Use one on a side table or group several together for more impact. We particularly love them arranged in a row down a long dining table, where the repetition of the glass domes creates plenty of candlelight without dominating the table.
The glass surround also makes them especially useful for outdoor dining, helping to protect the flame when an uncovered tea light might be disturbed by a breeze. Use them on garden tables, terraces and patios, or bring them outside for summer dinners and gatherings.
For another way to use the glass domes, pair them with one of our handmade cotton cord hangers to create a hanging tea light holder.
